Rising Threats to Missionary Schools in India: Radical Hindus Demanding the Remove of Christian Symbols
A new poster in the northeastern state of Assam, India, is demanding the removal of Christian symbols from Missionary schools. The poster, issued by a radical Hindu group called Sanmilito Sanatan Samaj on February 23, serves as a final warning. It urges the removal of statues and crosses from Christian-run schools in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat.
The poster, written in Assamese, the state’s official language, warns against using schools as religious institutions and insists on removing religious figures like Jesus Christ and Mary from school premises. In Guwahati, the posters appeared at Don Bosco School and St. Mary’s School, demanding missionaries should not make education as a way to Convert Hindus.
