The Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar happens between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM the Jyotirlinga honored with sacred ash in a ritual unchanged for centuries. Standing there that morning, conches echoing before the city woke up, I understood why people build entire trips around this one hour.
