  • An Al Ain court has ordered a company to pay Dh58,500 in unpaid wages and a further Dh5,000 in compensation to a former employee who resigned after months of not receiving her salary.

The ruling was issued by the Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court following a lawsuit filed by the employee after amicable settlement efforts failed.

The woman was offered a position as head of a department with a monthly salary of Dh9,000. Although she carried out her duties, her employment was never formalised through a written contract and her salary remained unpaid throughout her period of work.

Unable to continue under the circumstances, the employee resigned. In a WhatsApp message cited in the judgment, she apologised for stepping down and referred to the prolonged delay in receiving her wages.

A court-appointed expert confirmed that the employee had worked for the company on the agreed salary and that Dh58,500 remained outstanding. The employer failed to attend the hearings despite being duly notified and did not submit any evidence to challenge the claim or prove that the dues had been settled.
