An Al Ain court has ordered a company to pay Dh58,500 in unpaid wages and a further Dh5,000 in compensation to a former employee who resigned after months of not receiving her salary. The ruling was issued by the Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court following a lawsuit filed by the employee after amicable settlement efforts failed. The woman was offered a position as head of a department with a monthly salary of Dh9,000. Although she carried out her duties, her employment was never formalised through a written contract and her salary remained unpaid throughout her period of work. Unable to continue under the circumstances, the employee resigned. In a WhatsApp message cited in the judgment, she apologised for stepping down and referred to the prolonged delay in receiving her wages. A court-appointed expert confirmed that the employee had worked for the company on the agreed salary and that Dh58,500 remained outstanding.
